Berlin WelcomeCard compared: transport, discounts and buying advice

The Berlin WelcomeCard from visitBerlin comes in several versions: a plain Zone AB card, a Zone ABC card for trips to Potsdam and BER airport, and an optional Museumsinsel add-on. It combines free public transport with discounts, usually 25 to 50 percent, at numerous museums, attractions and tours.

Berlin City Pass-style products instead lean more towards free entry rather than discounts for a fixed selection of attractions such as the Fernsehturm. Whether public transport is included varies by provider and version, so check carefully before buying.

On top of that, platforms like Tiqets, Viator and GetYourGuide sell their own combos, such as Fernsehturm plus a Spree cruise, or a Brandenburg Gate tour plus a Museumsinsel ticket. These bundles are more flexible but narrower in scope than a full city card.

Do the maths honestly: add the single prices of the sites you'll definitely visit plus the cost of single transport tickets, and compare with the card price. Anything you might do doesn't count.

Time-limited cards create pressure. Over two to three days you realistically manage two or three attractions plus several train and bus rides – any more becomes a rush.

Timed tickets for high-demand attractions such as the Fernsehturm or the Reichstag often still need a separate reservation even with a discount card, since visitor numbers per slot are capped.

Berlin's overnight visitor tax is billed through your hotel and is not part of any attraction card.
